Why is walking around shirtless socially acceptable?!

27 May

I was in town today and since it’s like 24 degrees outside, there was a lot of topless men walking around. Now, don’t get me wrong, but I find it annoying how obnoxious they are – it’s boiling outside, but you don’t need to act like you’re the best thing around. Most people were dressed normally and I counted 25 people who weren’t. Out of those 25:

• 10 were obese
• 3 were twelve or younger
• 12 were wearing fake tan
• Over half were older than 30
• 1 was in a mobility scooter

I think it’s quite inappropriate for overweight, middle aged men to be walking around with their shirt off in a public place. I bet a lot of people would agree with me as well! Hopefully it’ll stay sunny, although not warm enough for people to strut around in shorts and no shirt.

I think I failed

26 May

Yesterday I had my end of KS3 English writing exam to ‘determine what our predicted target grades for GCSE will be’. We had to write a magazine article/story about how you lost contact with the outside world for two weeks whilst on a trip and everything that happened.

I’m pretty sure that I failed because: a) I didn’t end the story clearly, b) I only wrote a page and a half of A4, c) the story only lasted like 2 days and d) I’m a pessimistic person.

To be honest, I think these kind of tests are depressing since you only get forty five minutes to write the best thing you could ever write. I was so close to finishing the story as well! If I had an extra 10 minutes, I know I would do well. Anyway, let’s not dwell on the past – it’s not like I can change things now.

In other unrelated news, it’s so frigging hot! I had to do discus in the sun at midday and we were all standing there in 26 degree heat for two hours. Two hours of roasting in the sun whilst waiting for our turn to throw a piece of metal. How stupid does that sound?!

Meh, ranting over.

So…

24 May

So I’ve finally got the iOS WordPress app! But I have nothing to blog about. *insert awkward silence here* So anyways, that’s all I’ve got to blog about today.

Bye!

EXAMS

18 May

So it’s exam season at the moment and I’m sure I’m going to fail them all. I’ve already done my RE GCSE (my school makes Year 9s that are smart enough do them) and my Maths exams to get my end-of-GCSE target grade. The RE exam was way too easy to be a real GCSE paper, but who’s complaining? The Maths tests, however, are a completely different subject. The mental maths was easy, the non-calculator was easy, but the calculator paper was like, “WHEN DID WE EVER LEARN THIS?!?!?!”.

Soon I’ll be going my English tests and stuff, then I can relax for the rest of the year. I’m not too worried about any other things right now since I know I’ve been accepted in doing Extended Science. Plus, I’m pretty sure I don’t have any tests left to do after all this (but who’s to say that I don’t have a surprise French test or something?)

And to end this kind of monthly blog post, make sure you follow me on Twitter @EmC_98

Bye for now!

Long time no blog, eh?

26 Apr

It’s been forever since I last posted anything here (and I think my teacher has abandoned the arts Award scheme) and I’d like to fill you in on what’s happened over the last month. First of all, it was Easter a while back. I had a stupid amount of chocolate bunnies to murder- I mean eat (wait, they’re the same thing ¬¬) and I must say, it was fun.

Next on the list of updates: school started again! Yay (note the sarcasm). I’m having to take an RE GCSE, so I’m doing a lot of revision. At least, I should be revising. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I chose my options to take for GCSE’s in the Easter holidays. This year, we were only given three blocks to choose from which was kind of unfair. This is what I chose:

BLOCK 1 - Extended Science

BLOCK 1 BACK-UP - Product Design (Resistant Materials)

BLOCK 2 - History

BLOCK 2 BACK-UP - Geography

BLOCK 3 - French

BLOCK 3 BACK-UP - German

The reason I chose them was because I wanted to get the English Baccalaureate – something that just shows that you’ve got good qualifications. If I didn’t do the thing, I would’ve taken Product Design, Extended Science and French. Oh well, it’s too late now.

I think that’s all I’ve done since last time. Remember to check out my fanfiction stories as well! See you all soon!

Arts Award: Take 2

24 Mar

I gave up on the Arts Award a few months ago (but not officially) and now I had a major breakthrough – if I do the Arts Award, I don’t need to take Music as a GCSE! So I’m starting a new blog here to show my progress (or something). There, you can see what I’ve been doing – from essays about my Arts hero/heroine (Ally Carter, by the way), to photos of me with movie tickets (proof of “exploring the arts”). Hope you’ll take a second to look at it!

Trip to UCLAN!

16 Mar

Today I went on a Gifted & Talented trip to the University of Central Lancashire with 9 other people from my school (if you want to know who, scroll down to the bottom to read the small-print), which was quite interesting. We had a tour of the campus (it was HUGE) and did some workshops. I did Paramedics and Psychology since Forensic Anthropology was full or something. The Psychology workshop was things I already knew, so I didn’t learn much there. The Paramedics workshop was, um, interesting (let’s just say that the room we were in for the workshop had a wooden replica of an ambulance and robotic patient dummies that could speak). Missing a day of school for that was definitely worth it!

So now onto the more random parts of the day. At lunch, we were allowed to go to the shop by the café on campus. Now, you shouldn’t trust 10 teens with money to buy stuff from a shop that basically sells sweets and energy drinks. I bought a Red Bull (first time to drink one! Yeah, I know. That’s sad – how can anyone live without Red Bull?) and a large pack of Fruit Pastilles. 3 people bought a share pack of Maoams each and one person  bought two bars of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk bars and ate them in less than 10 minutes. If you ask me, it’s a bad idea to have a minibus full of hyper teens, but that would be a bit hypocritical of me since I was one of them.

That’s how my trip went! I still feel like I’ve had too much sugar – uber fast typing is uber fast. Hopefully I’ll be on more visits like this so I can blog more about them.

Well, I’ll get back to writing some fan-fiction !

Small-print: The list of people who went on the trip (no last names though): Dylan (the one who bought two full sized chocolate bars), Sam (the one who hit his head getting into the minibus and bought a pack of Maoams), Alan (the one that I corrected grammar for on Twitter and bought a pack of Maoams), Connor (the one who bought a pack of Maoams first and Sam and Alan copied), Sam (the one who was on the wrong side of the door when waiting to go from school), Matty (the one who put mushy peas in a coffee mug), Emma (the only sane one), Ocean (the one who was alone in the first workshop because no-one from my school chose it) and Billy (he’s just Billy).

Fan fiction!

11 Mar

Lately I’ve been reading some normal fan fiction and I’ve decided to have a go at writing some of my own. I go by TheCovertGirl and you should see what I’ve written so far. The stories are based on the Gallagher Girls series, but you don’t need to read them to understand the plot, but it would help if you did! What I write isn’t full of romantic crap – it’s more action/adventure stuff that most people would enjoy reading. I hope someone will take the time to read my fan fictions since I had fun creating them.

Bye for now!

Books?

1 Mar

Recently, I’ve been reading a bit because I had to randomly grab a book in my school’s library or get kicked out. The one I picked up was AMAZING. If you want to now what it was, it was I’d Tell You I Love, But Then I Have to Kill You. It’s the first book in a series about girls who are trained to be spies and I’ll probably give a review of it on a review page of sorts. But anyway, after reading it, I’ve thought about one thing the book has taught me:

Notice things

It doesn’t seem like much, but can you tell what someone you walked past 2 minutes ago was doing? Most of the time, it had to be a no. If you pay attention to all the little things, you really do feel like you know when something is wrong or that someone has been tailing you for the last 20 minutes. You improve your observation skills so much that if I asked you what colour shoes I was wearing on Tuesday, you could answer that easily (BTW, the answer is black).

There’s so much one book can teach you, even if it’s fiction. There’s a world that someone has created in the palm of your hand, waiting for you to explore. Reading that one book made me realize how much I’ve missed reading in the past 2 years – I read more books in February than the last 6 months of 2011! It’s also shown me how boring my real life is, so I’m going to carry on writing my short story thing (I’ll end up giving up again). Anyways, it’s been long enough since I last blogged, so I hope I can actually be bothered to type this much on a regular basis on my own accord.

Film Review: The Woman in Black

18 Feb

So I saw The Woman in Black with my friends on Wednesday (Orange Wednesdays FTW!)  and it was quite a good film. The plot of the movie is basically about a lawyer called Arthur Kipps who has come to a village to sort out the legal things of a woman who had recently died. The village is being terrorised by a spectre of a woman whose appearance leads to a child’s death. He finds out that the ghost had lost her son in an accident, so he tries to reunite them to settle their spirits. The acting in the film was quite believable and the music used created a lot of tension before a shocking part (I must admit that my friends and I were screaming at some bits of the film). It could’ve been better if it was slightly longer (only 95 minutes long), but apart from that, it was a very good film.

Quite a short review here since I can’t think of what else to say about it.
